A specified range of frequencies of electromagnetic waves.

Radio frequency bands are classified as follows.

These bands, based on multiples of 3, are a consequence of the speed of light being very nearly equal to 3 x 10⁸ m s^-1. Thus, VHF corresponds to free-space wavelengths 1–10 m and so on.
