Requirement of deciduous fruit trees and some other plants for undergoing cold temperatures during the dormant period.

Sufficient chilling brings about emergence from dormancy and normal fruit set and growth during the following season.
See chill hour.

Any function of time f(t) is periodic with period t if f(t) = f(t + τ) for all times t, where τ is the smallest number for which this equality holds.
